Black Elk selects J.D. "Joe" Matthews as Vice President of Land

Black Elk Energy, an independent oil and gas company, announced that Joe Matthews has recently joined the Company as Vice President - Land.  At Black Elk Energy Mr. Matthews will primarily focus on opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico, onshore South Louisiana.  Prior to joining Black Elk Energy in June 2008, Mr. Matthews was Manager of Business Development for Callon Petroleum Operating Company in Houston, Texas, where he was responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing joint venture and partnering opportunities. Prior to his work with Callon Petroleum Company Mr. Matthews was Director of Offshore Land for Vastar Resources, Inc. (ARCO Oil and Gas), where he was responsible for land duties in multiple oil and gas projects in the Gulf of Mexico and the "lower 48".  He was also a key contributor to Vastar's Deepwater Impact Study Team in 1995, which helped initiate Vastar's successful deepwater exploration program.  Mr. Matthews helped to draft the first Model Form Deepwater Operating Agreement as a member of the OCS sub-committee of the American Association of Professional Landmen.

Mr. Matthews received his B.B.A. degree in Petroleum Land Management from Texas Tech University in 1983. He is a Certified Professional Landman and a member of AAPL and HAPL.
